LIMA, April 9 (UPI) -- Former Army officer Ollanta Humala has won the first round of presidential elections in Peru, El Comercio reported online Sunday, citing exit polls.
However, exits polls from Sunday's election indicate Humala failed to win a majority of the vote, making a runoff likely.

Humala will either face former President Alan Garcia or Lourdes Flores, a conservative backed by the business community in Peru.
A runoff, if needed, would be held May 7.
