Poll: Almost half in U.S. creationist
JERUSALEM, April 9 (UPI) -- Convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard expressed anger Sunday that the man who was his former Mossad commander has been elected to Israel's parliament.
In a statement reported in the Jerusalem Post Sunday, Pollard said he never believed Israelis would vote Rafi Eitan into the Knesset as chairman of the Pensioners' Party.
"In my worst nightmares I never imagined that my people wouldn't care about the mitzvah of rescuing prisoners to such an extent that they would bring to power my former commander -- the man who betrayed and abandoned me for 21 years," Pollard said.
A former Mossad agent, Pollard was convicted of selling U.S. military secrets to Israel and sentenced to life in prison. Efforts to secure a pardon have been unsuccessful.
He blasted Eitan for failing to implement an escape plan, providing Americans with false testimony against him and for planning to remove him from the Israeli embassy.
