Gator alert sounded for Florida dog park

WINTER PARK, Fla., April 7 (UPI) -- Officials have sounded a gator alert for a popular Winter Park, Fla., dog park.

Alligators have been spotted at the 23-acre Fleet Peeples Park on the shores of Lake Baldwin, the Orlando Sentinel said Friday.

The park often draws hundreds of dog owners and their pets on weekends. Signs are posted warning of the potential danger, including a reminder that gators could be particularly attracted to dogs.

City spokeswoman Clarissa Howard said traps and baits were placed in the area and the gators will be removed.

"We want everyone to be aware that there is a possibility for gators to live in every lake in Florida," Howard said.
