Blair approval rating hits all-time low

LONDON, March 19 (UPI) -- British Prime Minister Tony Blair's personal approval rating has plunged to an all-time low of 36 percent, a new poll says.

The slide comes after reports surfaced about alleged deals in which Blair secretly gave peerages for party donations and loans. Blair denies the allegation.

A YouGov poll for The London Sunday Times reveals that 56 per cent of voters think the report is true while just 14 percent think otherwise. Even among Labor supporters, only a third side with Blair over the matter.

The Sunday Telegraph says the poll backs up its own earlier survey pointing to the perception that the current government is at least on a par with the scandal-hit John Major administration.
