Britain experiencing snow in springtime

LONDON, March 11 (UPI) -- Heavy snow and blizzards are set to sweep across Britain, causing dangerous travel conditions and freezing temperatures, forecasters have said.

Britain's Meteorological Office has already issued an early warning for Wales, the BBC reported, while Northern England and Scotland are predicted to be the worst hit on Saturday evening. Snow will continue to fall in other parts of Britain on Sunday.

Higher ground could get 15 to 20 centimetres (6 to 8 inches) of snow by the end of Sunday, forecasters say.

"During the day on Sunday, the snow will move right across the rest of Scotland and all of northern England, with blizzards continuing," reported Penny Tranter of BBC's Weather Center.

Cool air from Scandinavia has caused the severe weather. While temperatures are likely to reach 8 C or 9 C (46 F to 48 F) in Wales and the east of England by Sunday, temperatures in the east will barely rise above freezing.
