Moussaoui smiles at 9/11 attack details

ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 8 (UPI) -- Convicted terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui nodded and smiled at his Virginia sentencing hearing as prosecutors detailed the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

In Tuesday's session in Alexandria, Va., Assistant U.S. Attorney David Raskin went into great detail how three of four hijacked aircraft were used as missiles. He played an audiotape of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden praising the suicide hijackers, and Moussaoui mouthed along with the Arabic speech, The Washington Post reported.

Moussaoui, 37, is the only person convicted in the United States in connection with the attacks. Jurors are to decided whether he will be sentenced to life in prison or given the death penalty.

As he left the courtroom, the Post said, he pumped his fist and shouted, "God curse America!"

Moussaoui pleaded guilty last April to conspiring with al-Qaida in the Sept. 11 plot. He said bin Laden had instructed him to fly an airplane into the White House, but he denied involvement in the terrorist attacks that day.
