Peace mom arrested at U.N. rally

NEW YORK, March 7 (UPI) -- Peace activist Cindy Sheehan was among four arrested at an anti-Iraqi war rally outside the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in New York.

Sheehan, 49, whose son was killed in Iraq in April 2004, was charged with resisting arrest and trespassing, reports the New York Post. Also arrested Monday were Patricia Ackerman, 47, Melissa Beattie, 56, and Susan Benjamin, 52.

Separately, the New York Daily News reported a U.S. Mission spokesman as saying Sheehan was invited to come in to discuss her concerns, but she chose instead to block the entrance to the mission.

"It was clearly designed to be a media stunt, not aimed at rational discussion," the spokesman said.
