ROME, March 6 (UPI) -- An Italian intelligence official told a European Parliament investigation Rome knew nothing about the alleged abduction of a Muslim cleric by the CIA.
Nicolo Pollari told the inquiry Monday he could confirm claims by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, denying knowledge of the alleged abduction of Hassan Mustafa Osama Nasr, ANSA reported.
European Parliament member Giusto Catania said he was dissatisfied with Polari's testimony, saying it just confirmed newspaper reports.
In December, Italian judges issued arrest warrants for CIA agents involved in the alleged abduction.
The cleric, who is also known as Abu Omar, is the former imam of Milan's main mosque. He disappeared Feb. 17, 2003, and was suspected of have ties to international terrorism. He surfaced in Cairo in April 2004 under house arrest.
