Outbreak of foot-and-mouth afflicts Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Six more cases of foot-and-mouth disease were discovered among livestock in southern Brazil near the border with Argentina, O Globo news reported Tuesday.

The disease afflicting cattle, sheep and other livestock broke out in Brazil late last year prompting numerous countries to ban the importation of Brazilian beef and other meats.

Earlier this month, Brazil decided to ban the import of Argentine beef following the discovery of foot-and-mouth disease on an Argentine ranch.

Argentina, one of the world's largest beef exporters, suffered a similar outbreak of the disease five years ago.
