Russian police seize heroin on train

MOSCOW, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Police in Moscow have arrested a female drug trafficker from Tajikistan for attempting to smuggle heroin into Russia on a train.

Interior Ministry officials said Sunday that police searching a train at Moscow's Kazansky railway station seized almost 1.5 kilograms of heroin -- more than 3.3 pounds -- from a Tajik woman. The train had arrived in Moscow from Dushanbe, the capital of the Central Asian republic.

The ministry reported that more than 5 kilograms of hashish, 3 kilograms of opium and 1.5 kilograms of marijuana had been seized by authorities over a 24-hour period, the RIA Novosti news agency reported. The seizures took place in 23 incidents in 14 regions of Russia.
