Nigerian militants claim more attacks

ABUJA, Nigeria, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Nigerian militants, holding nine foreign oil workers, Monday claimed to have attacked another oil facility but the report was not confirmed.

Also not confirmed by Nigerian authorities was a claim by the militants that they had blown up a military vessel, reports the BBC.

The captives -- three Americans, two Thais, two Egyptians, a Briton and a Filipino -- being held in the Niger Delta were abducted Saturday while working on a pipeline for Shell, the report said. The captors, calling themselves the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, have not said what they plan to do with their captives.

The latest developments sent oil prices soaring Monday.
