Merkel criticizes Ahmadinejad's remarks

BERLIN, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel says Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's dismissal of the Holocaust was "unspeakable."

Merkel made the comment at a Christian Democrats conference in Berlin, where she launched a two-year review of her party's foreign and security policy, Deutsche Welle reported.

Ahmadinejad provoked outrage in Europe when he said Israel should be wiped out and that the Holocaust was a myth.

Merkel also condemned the violence over the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed but said discussion was needed to learn about the feelings of others, the newspaper said.
