SEOUL, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- South and North Korea have agreed to hold their second summit this year, Seoul's former unification minister told visiting Japanese reporters.
"We have already agreed in principle to hold it, and the remaining issue is when to hold it," Chung Dong-young told reporters during a press conference in the city of Jeonju Wednesday, the Korea Herald reported.
Chung did not say where talks between President Roh Moo-hyun and North Korean leader Kim Jong Il would be held, however.
Chung said he had reached a verbal agreement with Kim during a meeting in Pyongyang last June, when he led a South Korean delegation to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the first inter-Korean summit between former President Kim Dae-jung and Kim Jong Il.
The former president recently said he would like to visit Pyongyang in April, via an inter-Korean railway that is not yet completed. The newspaper speculated that he may go as a special envoy to arrange the next summit.
The president of South Korea's Railroad Corporation, Lee Chul, who recently visited Pyongyang to discuss opening the rail route, said the April trip might be possible.
