Britain investigates tape of alleged abuse

LONDON, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- British military officials are investigating a video allegedly showing British soldiers brutally beating a group of Iraqi teenagers.

On the tape, obtained by News of the World, an unidentified cameraman is heard laughing and urging his colleagues on, the BBC reported.

A military spokesman in Iraq condemned "all acts of abuse and brutality" by British troops, saying the allegations related to a "tiny number" of soldiers.

The Ministry of Defense is probing the incident, which the newspaper said happened in southern Iraq in 2004.

Speaking on the BBC's Sunday AM program, Chancellor Gordon Brown said the "loyal, hard-working, decent troops" in Iraq would see the allegations as a "slight on their great work".
