CHICAGO, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Chicago's Shedd Aquarium is expecting a little 125-pound bundle of joy, a baby beluga whale.

The calf is scheduled to arrive this summer. The calf will be small, at least compared to its parents, mother Puiji and father, Naluark, who weigh in at 1,500 pounds and 1,800 pounds, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Puiji was impregnated about 10 months ago, a quick and unromantic process.

"It only takes a few seconds," said Ken Ramirez, Shedd's vice president of animal training.

Naluark might have had a more difficult time in the wild, Ramirez said, since he would have had to prove his dominance by fighting other male belugas.

The couple has mated before but the young whale born in 2000 died a month after birth.
