Venezuela:U.S. Embassy officials are spies

CARACAS, Venezuela, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- U.S. Embassy officials are spying on the Venezuelan government, alleged Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

"We have you infiltrated, ambassador. Don't move much because we are watching you," El Nacional reported Chavez saying in reference to U.S. Ambassador to Venezuela William Brownfield.

The accusations by the president follow last week's allegations that a group of Venezuelan military officers passed along information along to a navy attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Caracas.

A group of active and retired military men have been detained for questioning, said Vice President Jose Rangel at the time. Others accused of providing intelligence to the United States were out of the country when the arrests were made, said Venezuelan officials.
