Three people were wounded in Khan Younis in Gaza in a clash between Fatah and Hamas. The two factions also confronted each other in Ramallah, the seat of Palestinian government on the West Bank.

Abbas, one of Fatah's founders, has asked Hamas to form a government. The Islamist party won a majority Wednesday, taking 76 seats in parliament to 43 for Fatah and 13 for a scattering of smaller parties.

Protesters accused Abbas of collaboration with Israel. Palestinian police guarded the president, keeping demonstrators from the house.
