Saudi King Abdullah in China for oil talks

BEIJING, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Saudi King Abdullah is on a three-day visit to China for talks with Chinese leaders on energy and trade issues, China's Foreign Ministry says.

The king, who arrived Sunday, was expected to meet President Hu Jintao Monday and to sign agreements on cooperation in oil, natural gas and mineral deposits, China Daily reported.

Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said trade between China and Saudi Arabia was valued at $14 billion between January and November 2005, most of it in Saudi oil exported to China. Saudi Arabia supplies 17 percent of China's imported oil.

Abdullah is scheduled to meet with ?hairman of the National People's Congress Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao on Tuesday.

Following his China visit, the king's itinerary includes India, Malaysia and Pakistan. It is his first tour outside the Middle East since assuming the throne in August last year.
