Father accused of chaining son to pole

BRISBANE, Australia, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- An Australian man is charged with torture for allegedly chaining his 11-year-old son to a pole for two days as punishment for running away.

The man, who lives on the Gold Coast, allegedly placed a dog chain and padlock around the boy's neck, the Brisbane Courier reported.

He was arrested by Surfers Paradise Juvenile Aid Bureau detectives and charged with torture and deprivation of liberty, the newspaper said.

The boy claimed he was given only water during his 48-hour ordeal but his father says he fed him sandwiches.
