DULUTH, Ga., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Officials in Georgia are trying to figure out why a usually mild-tempered bomb-sniffing dog attacked a 9-year-old girl.
Courtney Imoukhuede was jumping on a trampoline at her neighbor's house Jan. 9 when the 2-year-old Belgian Malinois bit her multiple times on her back and arm.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the girl was at the home of a friend, whose father was the dog's handler for the DeKalb County police.
Bomb-sniffing dogs are kept with the officer assigned to them in order to create a bond. They're also trained to be reserved and non-aggressive, which is why DeKalb and Gwinnett County police are investigating what happened.
Officer John Hansen was charged with failure to restrain his animal and attacks without provocation, both misdemeanors.
