Bloomberg spent $84 million on campaign

NEW YORK, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg spent more than $84 million of his own money on his re-election campaign, documents say.

The billionaire mayor also spent $1 million of his own money for his second inaugural, the New York Daily News reported Saturday.

The Republican mayor spent about $112 per vote -- the cost could go higher because not all bills have been paid -- compared to $99 a vote when he was elected to his first term in 2001.

Bloomberg spent nine times as much as his Democratic challenger, Fernando Ferrer, who has reported spending more than $9 million for the 2005 campaign. Ferrer's records indicate his campaign is about $500,000 in debt.
