Chile presidential candidates end campaign

SANTIAGO, Chile, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Chile's two presidential candidates wrapped up their campaigns Thursday and polls indicate Chile could elect its first woman president.

Sunday's runoff election pits Michelle Bachelet of the governing center-left coalition against center-right candidate Sebastian Pinera, a billionaire businessman.

Bachelet held her final rally in Santiago while Pinera wound up his bid in Valparaiso in a campaign that grew bitter in recent days.

A Mori poll published Thursday, ahead of the final rallies, suggested Bachelet, Defense minister under outgoing President Ricardo Lagos, had a 5-percentage-point lead, the BBC said.
