North Korean leader jets to China

SHANGHAI, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong Il flew to China, reports A South Korean news agency, contradicting a report that he had traveled by an armored train.

South Korea's Yonhap said the reclusive leader had arrived in Shanghai by a jet and was scheduled to go to Beijing.

Yonhap, citing an unnamed source, said Kim was to leave China Wednesday after three days in the country.

Kim, who is not known to travel by plane and even goes by special armored train when he does cross into another country, last visited China in April 2004 to discuss the six-nation talks on North Korea's nuclear weapons program.

China is trying to revive the talks after the United States and Japan refused North Korea's demand for a nuclear reactor as a condition to abandon its existing nuclear programs.
