RICHMOND, Ill., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- School officials in Illinois have fired an elementary school custodian in the Chicago suburb of Richmond after a video camera was found in the staff bathroom.
Paul Hain, superintendent of the Nippersink District 2 Board of Education, did not say how the custodian's dismissal was connected to the discovery of the camera.
"On the advice of our attorney, we can't say there's a cause relationship," he told the Chicago Tribune.
The custodian has been employed by the district for two years, Hain said. He is covered by the district's contract with the Richmond-Spring Grove Education Association.
The union representing the custodian was expected to file a grievance, Hain said.
The wireless, thumb-size camera was found on a pipe under the sink in a washroom used mainly by kitchen and maintenance staff but no children, the report said.
