The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, located in Hawaii, said the earthquake did not cause a tsunami.

Lasarusa Vuetibau, a senior seismologist with the Fiji government, said the quake was too deep to have been felt.

Vuetibau said earthquakes happen in the area about six times a year and are too deep to trigger tsunamis.
