Mass grave remains to be DNA tested

GANDHINAGAR, India, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Remains of a mass grave from 2002 religious riots in India will be subjected to DNA tests before given proper burials.

The Washington Post reports a high court in the northwestern state of Gujarat has ordered the testing of what is suspected to be the remains of more than 20 Muslims killed in the riots.

The grave was found by local residents.

The judge ordered state officials and the Central Bureau of Investigation to collect the remains with victims' families present.

The families will receive the remains after the tests for burial.
