NEW YORK, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- A New York City mother has been accused of squeezing the chest of her 1-year-old son until his ribs broke and then throwing him in his crib, police said.

Latifa Bunch, 25 -- who had earlier lost custody of her 9-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter -- has been charged with murder of her son Joziah, reported the New York Daily News Saturday.

Bunch allegedly brutalized the boy in her apartment and then left him with her 22-year-old boyfriend while she went to pick up a paycheck, police say.

There had been no reports of abuse or neglect against Bunch in relation to Joziah, a spokesman for the Administration for Children's Services said.
