MIAMI, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- A year that shattered Atlantic records for hurricanes ended with the 27th named tropical storm of 2005 spinning in mid-ocean late Saturday.
Tropical Storm Zeta was 1080 miles southwest of the Azores at 10 p.m. EST, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said. The storm was almost stationary and drifting westward.
Zeta's maximum sustained winds were close to 50 mph with tropical storm-force winds extending out 140 miles from the center.
Forecasters said the storm could break up at any time, although they suggested it was likely to continue for another 24 hours.
