Twin forgives rapist brother in frame-up

EDINBURGH, Scotland, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- A Scottish man whose twin brother tried to blame him for raping a student says now that his brother has owned up to the crime, he'll stand by him.

Robert Green, 28, had pleaded innocent to severely beating and raping a 19-year-old Dutch student in Roslin, Scotland, last May, and told the court his brother Richard had done it.

He said DNA would clear him, but that's not true in identical twins, prosecutors said.

Last week in Edinburgh, Robert Green changed his plea to guilty and is to be sentenced next month.

However, his brother Richard, his wife and three children have been forced to move to another town after being targeted by vandals and paint-bombs for months.

Richard Green told The Times of London he still loves his brother.

"I couldn't believe it when I was told my brother was planning to use me to try to get away with this," he said. "But, despite that, I love him to bits. He is my brother. I know what he has done but I will stand by him no matter what."
