LONDON, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Queen Elizabeth Sunday praised Britons in her Christmas Day message for their generosity in the wake of this year's tragedies around the globe.
The queen recalled the Asian tsunami, Hurricane Katrina and the July 7 London bombings as examples of how people responded in the wake of natural disasters and terrorist acts.
"This world is not always an easy or a safe place to live in, but it is the only place we have," she said in the speech, pre-recorded in the chapel at Buckingham Palace and broadcast in Britain and the Commonwealth.
"It has been clear that in the course of this year relief workers and financial support have come from members of every faith and from every corner of the world."
Unlike previous years, the queen made no mention of any other member of the royal family, the BBC reported.
