13 fugitives from La. arrested in Texas

Dec. 19, 2005 at 11:17 PM   |   Comments

AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Thirteen fugitives from Louisiana have been arrested in Texas, where they were living after Hurricane Katrina, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Three are homicide suspects and the others are charged with violent crime. Two of the fugitives are women.

"Texans rightly opened our arms and hearts to our Louisiana neighbors as they fled the devastation of Hurricane Katrina," Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said Monday in a news release. "But even as we provided a refuge for evacuees in need, we will not allow fugitives from the law to exploit the situation by hiding in our state."
