Korean scientist says he'll prove cloning

SEOUL, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- A South Korean scientist accused of faking results of stem cell cloning said he'll have evidence to exonerate him soon.

Dr. Hwang Woo Suk said in two weeks he'll prove his team didn't manipulate the cells or photographs of the experiments, The New York Times reports.

He was accused by former colleague Dr. Roh Sung Il of lying about cloning 11 stem cells and misleading about advances in stem cell technology.

Hwang said Friday he asked the journal Science to retract a June 17 article he and Roh wrote about the experiment.

Hwang said some of the data was wrong and six of the 11 cells had grown a fungus and were destroyed.
