Graphic crime-scene photos found in trash

MELBOURNE, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Hundreds of graphic crime-scene photos were found in a dumpster at a shopping center on the outskirts of Melbourne, Australia.

The discovery is an embarrassment for the provincial government, the newspaper The Age said, because it appears to be the second major police security breach within a few months. Earlier this year, secret police files were leaked.

A man turned the photographs over to a suburban newspaper last week, saying that someone else had found them and that they were being passed around by drinkers at a local hotel.

Opposition leader Robert Doyle called for an investigation.

"How do such shocking and graphic photographs get left in a dumpster for a passer-by to hand around in a pub? We need some answers about whether the police can keep this confidential material ... where it should be -- that is, well out of the public eye," Doyle said.
