Teacher charged with stabbing girl

KYOTO, Japan, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- A part-time teacher at a cram school in Japan is accused of killing a 12-year-old girl.

Police say Yu Hagino purchased a kitchen knife one week before he allegedly stabbed the girl with it on Saturday, Kyodo news service reported.

The 23-year-old suspect allegedly told police, "I bought a kitchen knife one week ago to kill" Sayano Horimoto, a sixth grade student who was studying at Kyoshin cram school in Uji.

The police have confiscated the 11-inch weapon and another similar-size kitchen knife as well as a hammer, all of which he brought to the school Saturday.

The girl stopped taking Hagino's Japanese class earlier this month after one of her parents had requested that the school change her instructor.
