BRUSSELS, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Agreement on a European Union budget for 2007 through 2013 is still remote.
The BBC reports many of the EU's new members are not happy about British Prime Minister Tony Blair's plan to cut 10 percent from development aid proposed for their countries.
"We want to come to an agreement but not at any price," Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany said after a meeting with Blair and leaders from the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia.
Blair offered to sacrifice part of Britain's EU rebate. He has also suggested that the budget be adopted with a provision for a midterm review.
Britain's EU presidency ends at the end of December. Foreign ministers are scheduled to meet next week in Brussels, with a summit meeting on Dec. 15 and Dec. 16.
