LONDON, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- The panel looking into the shooting of a man in the London subway said its probe would include a look at actions by Metropolitan Police chief Ian Blair.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission on Monday said the conduct of Metropolitan Police Commissioner Ian Blair would now be considered as it looks in the death of Jean Charles de Menezes.
De Menezes, a Brazilian national, was shot seven times in the head at a subway station on July 22 in the aftermath of the London mass transit terror attacks.
De Menezes' family claims Blair and other senior officers "misled" the public over the circumstances of the shooting. It emerged that the victim had not been wearing bulky clothing or jumped a ticket barrier as was widely reported, nor had he been ordered to stop by police.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner John Yates said the Metropolitan Police welcomed the investigation and said all involved would cooperate. He issued a statement saying that, while the complaints involved Blair, they were not "solely about him."
