'Nanny tax' considered in Britain

LONDON, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Families in Britain who hire nannies or babysitters might be charged a "nanny tax" as part of a plan to better fund pensions.

The plan calls for an employee to contribute a few pennies of each dollar earned, with the same amount matched by the employer and government, reported the Sunday Telegraph.

The new tax scheme would apply to families who register nannies and babysitters or other forms of domestic help.

The proposal, three years in the making, has sparked furious debate after a leaked report revealed a big increase in the basic state pension and raising the retirement age to 67.
