NEW YORK, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- A New York City couple face 10 years in prison after they pleaded guilty to smuggling women from Korea to work in a bar and nail salons.

Wun Kang and his wife, Kyongja, pleaded guilty Friday to the human trafficking scheme, the New York Daily News reported Saturday.

The couple were accused of promising the women high wages, while encouraging them to work as prostitutes so they could pay down their smuggling fee.

Prosecutors are seeking to deport Kyongja Kang, who is not a U.S. citizen.

Former Immigration and Naturalization Service inspector Nisim Yushuvayev also pleaded guilty for coercing two of the Korean women into returning to their native country so they wouldn't testify against the couple, the News said.
