Cindy Sheehan convicted of illegal protest

WASHINGTON, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Cindy Sheehan, the bereaved military mother turned war protester, and dozens of her supporters were fined Thursday for a protest at the White House.

Sheehan was one of more than 300 persons who were arrested Sept. 26 for demonstrating without a permit. They attempted to deliver a list of those killed in Iraq to President Bush and then sat down.

A magistrate judge convicted them Thursday after less than two days of trial and imposed a fine of $50 each, the Washington Post reported.

Sheehan gained national attention in August when she set up Camp Casey near Bush's Texas ranch. The camp was named after her son, who died a few days after his deployment in Iraq.
