U.S. Embassy issues second China warning

GUANGZHOU, China, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- U.S.-affiliated facilities in China's southern city of Guangzhou have stepped up security after the U.S. Embassy issued a terror alert for the city.

The warning said that official U.S. government facilities, as well as schools, clubs and restaurants where Americans gather were potential terrorist targets.

It was the second threat issued within a week. A warning posted last Wednesday on the U.S. Embassy Web site, warning of attacks on Americans in Beijing, was later retracted after China's Public Security Ministry said the information had been fabricated by foreigners.

A spokesman for the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou told the South China Morning Post that the current warning was "based on credible information."
