Sparrow disrupts domino display

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- A little sparrow caused an unintentional domino effect at a 4.3 million domino display in a Dutch exhibition hall Tuesday and paid for it with its life.

Later, the man who shot the bird with an air rifle received a death threat.

The little bird's crime was to knock over 23,000 of the 4.3 million dominoes laid out in the FEC exhibition center in Leeuwarden for an attempt at breaking the domino toppling record in the Dutch province of Friesland on Friday.

Luckily, safeguards kept all of the dominos from dropping so they will be re-set and ready for the big show, Expatica said.

Officials decided to shoot the bird with an air rifle after attempts to capture it were unsuccessful.

The animal rights group Dierenbescherming and the provincial authority have both appointed officials to investigate the shooting of a protected species.
