Peres, Peretz hold 1st post-vote meeting

TEL AVIV, Israel, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Shimon Peres and the man who ousted him as the chairman of Israel's Labor Party held their first meeting since the election Friday.

The Jerusalem Post reports the meeting in Peres' Tel Aviv office was delayed by his failure to make a prompt congratulatory telephone call to Amir Peretz after Wednesday's election. Peres was reportedly considering disputing the results, especially Peretz getting 100 percent of the vote in some Arab towns.

Peretz, head of the Histadrut Labor Federation, is now in line to be Labor's next candidate for prime minister.

Peres did not attend Friday's Labor Party meeting. The Post says he is weighing options that could include joining Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in a new party.

Labor plans to hold another meeting in three weeks to decide whether to remain in the government.
