NEW DELHI, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Alleged bomber Abu Salem, one of India's most wanted men, has been extradited by Portugal, reports say.

Indian authorities accuse Salem of involvement in attacks in Bombay in 1993 that killed more than 250 people. He denies any part in the bombings.

Salem was handed over to Indian authorities with his companion, former Bollywood actress Monica Bedi, the BBC said.

India had pressed for their extradition since their arrest in Portugal in 2002.

A Portuguese court sentenced Salem to 4 1/2 years in November 2003, for possession of forged documents and resisting arrest. Bedi was sentenced to 2 years for using false documents.

Authorities in India say Salem, an Indian Muslim, is a key associate of Indian crime lord Dawood Ibrahim, who also is suspected of involvement in the bombings.

Indian investigators also want to question Salem in connection with more than 60 killings and cases of extortion and kidnapping involving Bombay film producers and actors.
