Assistant principal dead in shooting spree

JACKSBORO, Tenn., Nov. 8 (UPI) -- A student who allegedly shot three administrators Tuesday at a Tennessee high school, killing one, was immediately arrested.

The shootings occurred at Campbell County Comprehensive High School in Jacksboro, in a rural area about 35 miles northwest of Knoxville, CNN reported. Judy Blevens, Campbell County's school director, said the high school was locked down after the shootings.

Principal Gary Seale and Assistant Principal Jim Pierce, also a track coach, were taken by helicopter to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Assistant Principal Ken Bruce was pronounced dead at St. Mary's Medical Center in LaFollette.

Campbell County Sheriff Ron McClellan said that the suspect was 15. The teenager is believed to have used a .22-caliber handgun, hidden under a napkin.

The teen was shot in the hand and was taken to St. Mary's for treatment and then transferred to a juvenile detention center in Scott County.

As word of the shootings spread, parents gathered outside the school. Police allowed buses and cars to enter the grounds to take students home.
