South Korea officials travel to nuke talks

BEIJING, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Officials from South Korea traveled to China for this week's resumption of the six-way talks on North Korea's nuclear program.

The latest round of negotiations with China, Japan, North Korea, Russia, South Korea and the United States all on hand is set to resume Wednesday. The talks are to convince North Korea to stop its nuclear weapons development. The North Koreans are seeking concessions -- mainly economic -- to do so.

The South Koreans are expected to hold behind-the-scenes meetings with Chinese officials ahead of the formal six-party gathering to address what are expected to be touchy issues still ahead.

Delegates emerged from mid-September talks with a joint declaration on North Korea's nuclear program and this week's round is expected to advance into more detail on the agreement.
