LONDON, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- The British minister for Work and Pensions has allegedly broken ministerial conduct rules by dealing with a biotech company.

The chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life said Minister David Blunkett broke the ministerial code by failing to consult on his dealings with DNA Bioscience, reports the Guardian.

The government says Blunkett has promised to sell his family's shares in the firm, but Parliament is waiting to see if new revelations would further imperil the Cabinet minister's position, the report said. Blunkett has said he will not resign over the issue.

Conservatives have written to Prime Minister Tony Blair to know what actions Blair will take against Blunkett.

The committee chairman said it is up to Blair to determine how the issue should be dealt with. Blunkett has refused to discuss the issue in public.
