Poll: Almost half in U.S. creationist
WASHINGTON, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney has selected a replacement for Lewis "Scooter" Libby, who resigned as Cheney's chief of staff after being indicted.
David Addington, currently counsel to the vice president, was chosen to be Cheney's chief of staff, the White House said in a release Monday. Cheney also appointed John Hannah to be assistant to the vice president for national security affairs.
Libby was named Friday in a five-count indictment that alleged he lied to the FBI and a grand jury. He was also charged with obstructing justice in the investigation into the leaking of a covert CIA operative's name. His attorney has said Libby plans to fight the charges.
The White House said Addington has served as counsel to the vice president since the 2001 inauguration. He previously had positions at the CIA, Defense Department and four congressional committees.
Hannah has been on the vice president's staff since March 2001.
