Aksa Brigade not ready to disarm

GAZA, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Despite the Palestinian Authority's plans to disarm the Aksa Martyrs Brigade in the Gaza, the group has no such plans to give up their arms, says a report.

The Palestinian Authority wants absorb the brigade's members into its security forces after disarming them, but the Jerusalem Post reports the Fatah-linked gunmen continue to exchange frequent fire with the Israeli forces since Israel quit the strip six weeks ago.

Over the past week, the groups have amplified their rallying cries against Israel and even the Palestinian Authority, the report said.

Other terrorist groups like the Hamas have publicly reiterated their dreams of creating an Islamic state between the Jordan and the sea, while the Islamic Jihad has pressed forward with terrorist attacks, the report said.

Hassan Abu Ali, commander of the Aksa brigade, recently told the Post the group has developed a new rocket with a range of more than 10 miles -- enough to hit Israeli territory.

But Palestinian public opinion supports the retirement of all gunmen not under Palestinian Authority command, the report said.
