WASHINGTON, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Conservatives have launched two Web sites and plan a new media campaign in their stepped-up effort against the U.S. Supreme Court nomination of Harriet Miers.

The conservatives had originally been expected to use their vast mailing lists and fundraising networks to support President Bush's Supreme Court nominees. But now they will use the same resources to highlight their concern about Miers' conservative credentials and lack of judicial experience, reports The Washington Post.

Meanwhile, the president continues to defend his nominee and has refused to accede to requests from senators for documents detailing Miers's White House work. The senators from both major political parties feel the documents would allay their concerns about her qualifications, the Post said.

Some conservatives think Bush can settle the dispute by withdrawing the nomination.

"We really do want to support the administration, but we just feel like we've reached a situation with this nomination that is beyond repair," said Brian Burch with Fidelis, a Catholic antiabortion rights group seeking Miers' withdrawal.
