Miers told to resubmit response

WASHINGTON, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- U.S. Congressional leaders asked Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers to resubmit answers to parts of a questionnaire calling her first response incomplete.

The order was issued to Miers by both Republican and Democratic leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee, who said various members had found her responses "inadequate," "insufficient" and "insulting," The New York Times reports.

Committee Chairman Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and senior Democrat Patrick Leahy of Vermont wrote to Miers faulting what they called incomplete responses, the report said. The letter said those responses concerned her legal career, her work in the White House, her potential conflicts on cases involving the administration and the suspension of her license by the District of Columbia bar, the Times said.

Miers also was asked to give detailed accounts of private reassurances about her views given by the White House or its allies to some conservative supporters who have been anxious about her positions on abortion and other social issues.
